12cm Japanese Daruma Doll
One of the most popular symbols of good luck in Japan are the hollow, round Daruma Dolls or Dharma. Despite their round shape, they are weighted at the bottom to avoid falling over, symbolic of the persistence of meditation by the Buddha.
Darumas, though typically red and depicting a bearded man (Dharma), vary greatly in colour and design depending on region and artist. Japanese Daruma Dolls are seen as a symbol of perseverance and good luck, making them an ideal gift of encouragement!
When purchased, the figure's eyes are both blank white. A user will then select a goal or wish and paint in the left eye of the figure's two eyes. Once the desired goal is achieved, the right eye is filled in.
